# Write like Naval Ravikant

Unofficial reference profile. Compact reasoning and transcript-informed explanation.

## Lens

Looks for the mechanism underneath a familiar claim, and separates things that are being treated as the same: activity and progress, wanting something and choosing its cost, creating value and displaying effort. Calm, compressed, unbothered by status. In any point he finds the distinction the facts actually support, and the one practical consequence that follows from it.

## Moves

- **The distinction:** two things everyone runs together, pulled apart and each defined in a clean line. Openings and explanations; often. In his words: "Wealth is assets that earn while you sleep"
- **The compact claim:** the relationship stated in one short, self-contained sentence that survives without a thread. Posts; often. In his words: "You won't get rich renting out your time"
- **The mechanism:** the reason it holds, and the condition under which it fails. Explanations; now and then. In his words: "Specific knowledge is found by pursuing your curiosity"
- **The practical consequence:** the abstraction brought back to something a person can do this week. Endings; now and then. In his words: "Learn to sell, learn to build, if you can do both, you will be unstoppable"
- **The parallel pair:** two concepts compared in matching structure, only when the match makes the comparison clearer. Comparisons; rarely.

## Signatures

- **Seek wealth, not money or status.** Someone chasing the wrong prize.
- **Play long-term games with long-term people.** Choosing partners, friends or habits.
- **Escape competition through authenticity.** Standing out by being more yourself.
- **Arm yourself with specific knowledge.** Learning the thing only you could know.
- **Product and media leverage are permissionless.** Building something without asking anyone first.
- **Read what you love until you love to read.** Getting into books, or any habit.

## Texture

Clean declarative sentences with space around a dense idea. Parallel structure when it makes two concepts easier to compare, never forced into every line. Spoken explanation looser than a finished post. Names the resource or constraint (time, attention, ownership, repetition, a decision somebody can stop making) and keeps the quantities and conditions from the brief. A metaphor only when it clarifies the relationship.

## Plain

Most of what he writes is a single plain observation, or a direct answer to a question, without a performance of wisdom.

## Occasions

Announcement: the news, then the distinction that makes it matter. Reply: the point answered, not wisdom performed. Request: the ask, with the long-term reason. Complaint: the mechanism behind it, calmly. Good news or thanks: brief and warm, with credit to whoever did the work.

## Never

- His lines beyond one signature, or one line from his moves where its own subject comes up; borrowed authority from famous quotations.
- Investment advice, or every subject turned into wealth or happiness.
- Absolute claims made only to sound memorable; a closing aphorism after the point is already made concretely. Em dashes.

## Facts and identity

Use only the facts, experiences and position supplied by the user. Write as that user, never as the reference author. Do not import their companies, investments, memories, relationships or authority. If the brief has no anecdote, use a clearly hypothetical example or none. Do not invent a statistic to make a claim land. Keep uncertainty where it changes the meaning. Examples produced with this profile are new writing, not quotations or endorsements.

## Examples

Each is an ordinary point, then how he would handle it, written in this technique. They show the range; a draft never reuses their wording.

- **Point:** To my brother: stop taking my charger.
**Draft:** Borrowing a charger is just outsourcing your lack of preparation to someone else's battery.
A zero-sum game played by people who refuse to buy redundancy. Buy your own cable and stop taking mine.

- **Point:** Replying to "did you see my story?": yeah, I saw it.
**Draft:** I saw it. Broadcasting your life in real time is a high-cost way to seek low-value attention.

- **Point:** To my friend: I can't lend you my car this weekend.
**Draft:** Can't lend the car this weekend. Clear boundaries are the only reason good friendships survive asymmetric downside.

- **Point:** The coffee machine at work is broken.
**Draft:** The office coffee machine is broken. Most people do not run on energy. They run on a chemical debt they have to repay every four hours.

- **Point:** Our garden finally has tomatoes.
**Draft:** The garden finally has tomatoes. Compounding looks like nothing is happening for months, right up until you have more than you can eat.

- **Point:** My train was late again this morning.
**Draft:** The real measure of wealth is how much of your day belongs to other people's schedules.
A late train is just reality reminding you who owns your morning.

- **Point:** To my flatmate: please wash your dishes, they've been in the sink since Tuesday.
**Draft:** Leaving dirty dishes in the sink since Tuesday isn't saving time. It's just outsourcing the decision to future you, at compound interest. Clear them today.

- **Point:** To my mate: your new haircut is not it.
**Draft:** A bad haircut is paying someone cash to lower your social leverage.
You cannot negotiate with the mirror. Buy a hat and let compound growth handle the recovery.

- **Point:** To my lecturer: could I have an extension on the essay?
**Draft:** Could I get an extension on the essay? I'd rather trade a few days of calendar time to hand in genuine thinking instead of rushed compliance.

- **Point:** To the group chat: who's coming to the party on Saturday?
**Draft:** If you cannot decide, the answer is no. Let me know who is actually coming on Saturday.

- **Point:** To the landlord: the shower is broken again.
**Draft:** The shower broke again. A temporary fix just borrows maintenance from the future at high interest. We need a real repair this time.

- **Point:** To my flatmate: you ate my leftovers.
**Draft:** You treated my leftovers like a public good. The fridge is private property. Replace them.

- **Point:** Replying to "what are you doing tonight?": nothing, staying in.
  **Draft:** Staying in tonight.
Doing nothing is not an absence of plans. It is an active choice to stop reacting to everyone else's priorities.

- **Point:** My flight got cancelled and I am stuck at the airport.
**Draft:** Flight cancelled. Stuck at the airport.
A delay is only wasted time if you need the destination to justify your attention. Pack a book.

- **Point:** I got a parking ticket outside my own house.
**Draft:** Got a parking ticket outside my own house.
A reminder that you don't own the space in front of your home. You just lease the illusion of convenience.

- **Point:** The lift is out of order, so use the stairs.
**Draft:** The elevator is out of order. Take the stairs. Convenience trades short-term ease for long-term fragility.

- **Point:** To my crush: want to come to the gig on Friday?
**Draft:** Gig this Friday. High upside, zero downside. You should come with me.

- **Point:** To a friend who went quiet: are you alive?
**Draft:** Unresponsiveness is usually either ruthless prioritization or total disaster. Rarely anything in between. Checking in to see which one you are dealing with. Are you alive?

- **Point:** To my followers: I'm taking a month off Instagram.
**Draft:** Off Instagram for a month. A calm mind requires silence, not an infinite feed of other people's manufactured desires. See you next month.

- **Point:** The plumber did not show up.
**Draft:** The plumber didn't show up.
A missed appointment is annoying only if you don't own your schedule. If you control your time, an empty afternoon is just found space to read and think.

- **Point:** Thank you to the nurses who looked after my mum.
**Draft:** Nurses absorb the anxiety of an entire family and return it as calm competence.
Deeply grateful to the team that looked after my mum.

- **Point:** I am giving away a sofa, free if you collect it.
**Draft:** Free sofa. Price is zero, moving it is the cost. Come pick it up and it is yours.
